Sierra Leone’s Mohamed Alieu Kamara has continued to fly the green, white and blue flag high after securing a silver medal at the just-concluded Mind Sports Olympiad in England.
Kamara produced an impressive performance, outshining 26 competitors and finishing with 5 wins and 2 losses, alongside an outstanding +798 spread.
He came close to challenging for the gold medal, but Craig Solomons proved too strong, winning all seven of his games to claim the championship.
The tournament forms part of Kamara’s preparations for the upcoming Africa Scrabble Championship (AFC), scheduled to take place in Monrovia, Liberia, in October.
Speaking after his impressive finish, Kamara said:
“I am delighted to finish in second position and keep flying the green, white and blue flag higher.”
He added:
“Now it is time to focus on the AFC in Liberia. Team Sierra Leone will soon hold our national championship to select the best team for the Monrovia challenge. I know it will not be easy, but with determination and spending nights finding words, we will definitely achieve our goals.”
A proud achievement for Sierra Leonean Scrabble and another strong step in Kamara’s journey toward continental glory.
