The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has confirmed that it is investigating the alleged homicide of Catherine Valentina Kamanda, a Matron at Connaught Hospital and Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS). Kamanda resided at No. 5 Kamanda Drive, Peninsula, Goderich, Freetown.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred between 11:00 p.m. on 8th February and midnight at the victim’s residence.
The Criminal Investigations Department has taken into custody 16-year-old Goodluck Nicol, reportedly the adopted son of the deceased and resident at the same address. The suspect has allegedly confessed to striking the victim on the head with a pestle and is currently assisting police with investigations.
The Sierra Leone Police has clarified that the incident is not linked to any robbery, contrary to earlier speculation.
The matter remains under active investigation, and further updates will be provided as inquiries progress. The SLP extends its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased and reassures the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served.
