The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) and the Ministry of Health have confirmed an outbreak of cutaneous ulcers caused by Haemophilus ducreyi in Bombali District, Northern Province.

According to health officials, the outbreak was first detected on November 17, 2025, in Kayassie Community, Salroko Limba Chiefdom, and has since spread to 27 surrounding communities, with children being the most affected.

The Ministry further stated that as of December 24, 2025, a total of 267 suspected cases had been recorded, including 96 laboratory-confirmed cases. One hundred and fifty patients have recovered, while 211 contacts are currently under active follow-up. No deaths have been reported.

Most of the cases involve children between the ages of five and fifteen, with boys accounting for more than half of those affected. Symptoms include painful, slow-healing skin ulcers, mainly on the arms and legs.

Health authorities say response measures have been intensified and the outbreak is now under control, but they are urging the public to remain vigilant, report symptoms early, and strictly observe hygiene practices to prevent further spread.
