FREETOWN — Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, convened a second meeting with opposition members of Parliament on Friday, 10 April 2026, in a renewed bid to end their ongoing boycott of legislative duties.

The closed-door engagement followed previous talks aimed at convincing All Peoples Congress (APC) lawmakers to return to their constitutional roles after weeks of absence from parliamentary proceedings.

In his address to the opposition caucus, Speaker Thomas disclosed that he had intended to relay feedback from the President following their last meeting, but was unable to do so as the President was occupied with other state engagements.

Despite this, the Speaker urged APC MPs to set aside their grievances and resume full participation in Parliament. He cautioned against abandoning legislative responsibilities due to actions by the executive branch, describing such a stance as detrimental to the functioning of the state.

He further noted that several critical bills were pending before the House, making the opposition’s return both urgent and necessary.

The opposition MPs have maintained a boycott of Parliament in recent weeks, citing unresolved political disagreements with the ruling government. Friday’s meeting marks the Speaker’s second formal intervention in the matter.

As of Saturday morning, there was no official response from the APC leadership on whether the party would heed the Speaker’s appeal.
