FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — March 24, 2026 — The Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has officially commenced a series of high-level strategic engagements with political parties, government institutions, and international partners, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2028 electoral cycle.
According to the Commission, the initiative is designed to strengthen electoral integrity, enhance transparency, and promote broader stakeholder collaboration in the lead-up to the 2028 General Elections in Sierra Leone.
Speaking on the purpose of the engagements, the Chief Electoral Commissioner emphasized the importance of professionalism and openness in the electoral process. “Our goal in these engagements is to ensure absolute professionalism and transparency,” the CEC noted. “By engaging our partners early, we are building the foundation of trust necessary for a credible 2028 electoral cycle.”
The ECSL further indicated that the ongoing consultations will provide a platform to address concerns raised by stakeholders, clarify operational plans, and update partners on institutional readiness. The Commission added that these engagements form part of its broader strategy to align electoral preparations with international best practices.
According to the Commission, the outreach will also strengthen coordination with key actors across the public and international sectors, ensuring that logistical, technical, and administrative frameworks are adequately addressed well in advance of the elections.
The developments come as electoral stakeholders increasingly call for early planning, inclusivity, and sustained dialogue to safeguard the credibility of future elections in Sierra Leone. From the capital Freetown, the ECSL is expected to continue its engagements in the coming months as part of its roadmap toward a transparent and well-managed electoral process.
